Meet Ruth Smith

The daughter of a teacher, Ruth Smith was born and raised in South Carolina and her journey to public service began with a passion for the law. While her friends enjoyed shopping malls, Ruth found herself drawn to the local courthouse, captivated by the pursuit of justice.

After earning her B.A. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994, Ruth dedicated a year to working at a domestic violence shelter in McDowell County. That experience inspired Ruth to fight for victims and she pursued her law degree the at UNC School of Law, graduating in 1999.

Ruth's began her legal career by working with several prominent law firms in North Carolina before she established her own practice in Asheville in 2010. She has always been a fighter for the causes she believes in and has lead the charge against unfair affirmative practices in government.

A small business owner, Ruth understands how the burden of government regulations and heavy taxes prevent our economy from growing and reaching its full potential.

A wife and mother to two sons, Ruth is engaged in our community. She's the former Vice President of the North Buncombe High School Marching Blackhawks. She is committed to justice, liberty and the values that make North Carolina great.
